Travel Agency Catering to Older Americans Joining
High-Tech Trend
Vantage says majority use Internet to complete forms,
get info
Oct.
31, 2007 A travel agency that caters to older Americans says it is
adding an option for their customers to book travel on the Internet,
after finding that seven out of ten of their customers are using an
Internet feature for filling out forms and getting information that was
added last year.
Vantage Deluxe World Travel says that most
businesses that cater to senior citizens are discovering that demands of
the clientele are changing.
Vantage is among the companies adjusting the ways
they communicate with their customers to meet the needs of this new,
more computer savvy population.
Ninety-five percent of the international tour
companys customers are over the age of 50. Until recently, the majority
of their customers preferred to book travel the old-fashioned way, by
talking to a person on the telephone.
As that trend started to change, Vantage says it
began offering more internet opportunities, such as the My Account
feature on its website, which allows customers to access real-time
information about their trip and fill out paperwork at their
convenience, 24 hours a day.
When Vantage established this feature in June 2006,
the company says it anticipated a rate of use of 35 percent. Currently,
72 percent of their customers utilize the My Account feature. This was
a sign pointing the direction the company and many others marketing to
seniors needed to go.
On Dec. 1, Vantage will debut its Internet booking
option. Investing in this customer service was a necessity.
As our clients change, their demands change. If we
werent willing to adapt, wed be left behind, said Vantage CEO Henry
Lewis
We see this as a way to free up our trip advisors,
so they will have more time to answer customer queries about their
destinations and less time filling out routine paperwork.
Vantage anticipates that for a while the vast
majority of their customers will continue to opt for phone booking. But
as increasing numbers of senior citizens grow more comfortable with the
electronic interaction and convenience the Internet allows, this will be
a popular option.
