Senior Women Will Get Public Breast Massage in Bangkok Dispute Over Breast-Enhancing Cream

Three younger models were fined last week in demonstration

Feb. 27, 2005 – A breast enhancing product will be officially introduced on Wednesday in Bangkok, Thailand, featuring women in their 60’s having their breast massaged behind opaque screens. This is after the company created a storm last week when they gave a demonstration to show the cream’s immediate ability to increase breast size. Three bare-breasted women, with only their nipples hidden, stood before reporters on a hotel stage Thursday for 15-minute massages.

The Nation newspaper in Bangkok covered the story with photographs, which has aroused strong protest from the government. Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration has suspended sales of the breast-firming cram until the address on the label is corrected, according to The Nation. An FDA representative at the launch said the product’s label did not violate regulations, because it did not use the words “breast-enlarging cream”. Instead, it read “breast-beautifying cream”, which could allow it to slip through the FDA’s controls.

The FDA says the company must provide proof that the cream can make breasts firmer, or face legal action for false advertising. They want this proof before the March 2 introduction, which will feature the older women.

The police also fined the company and the models for causing public embarrassment with indecent exposure.

A photograph of former teenage singer Prissana “Pookie” Praisang, having the breast massage was featured by the newspaper.

An executive of St Herb Co Ltd, said the demonstration was in answer to statements by the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) and the FDA that the company’s newspaper ads could be exaggerated. She begged the public not to consider the demonstration obscene or an example of discrimination against women, saying it was just to show the product really worked.

“One model, identified only as Ying, said she did not know that the demonstration would be in front of so many media members, mostly men, but she had to continue despite her embarrassment. However, she does believe that her breasts have become firmer and the gap between the pair one inch smaller,” the newspaper reported.

There should be another show on March 2, when the senior women take the stage. It is unclear why the company thinks using the older women may avoid problems.
