Edith and Grace in 1907 |
June 15, 2005 Grace L. Campbell and Edith M.
Ritzi celebrated their 98th birthday on May 22 and they many not be the
oldest living female twins but they sure must be in the running. They
were born in 1907 - Teddy Roosevelt was President, the Ziegfeld Follies
were being introduced, Oklahoma became a state and a first class stamp
cost two cents.
The girls were born Grace Luella and Edith Marcella
Moyer in Weissport, Pennsylvania. They are the only surviving children
of Robert and Ellen Moyer, who had five girls and one boy. The family
moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, when the twins were nine.
Grace has lived in Worcester most of her life,
where she raised two sons along, after becoming a young widow. Her boys,
Robert and Edison, left school early to help their mom with the family
support.

Guinness World Records record Kin Narita and Gin Kanie (born
August 1, 1892), as the oldest authenticated female twins. Kin
died of heart failure on January 23, 2000, at the age of 107.
The twins' lives spanned three centuries. They are still
household names in Japan and in the past appeared regularly on
TV and commercials. Kin gave birth to 11 children and had as
many grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one
great-great grandchild. Gin has five children, four
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. |

The boys went to the armed forces then returned to
start their own families. They gave Grace four grandchildren.
She lived alone after the boys left but after
turning 93 she moved into the Beaumont Nursing Care in nearby
Northbridge.
Grace is a wonderful mother and grandmother,
besides being a strong and decent human being, said her sons in a
statement. She did her best and her family will forever appreciate her
undying effort.
Edith married Charles OConnor in Worcester in 1931
and they had one son, Charles. After her first husband died in 1939, she
re-married in 1943 to Earl Ritzi. They lived in Barre, Massachusetts and
had one son, Earl Michael. Her husband died in 1994 and she has remained
in Barre. In 2002, she moved to the Oakdale Nursing Home in Boylston,
Massachusetts.
Today, Charles lives in Melbourne Beach, Florida,
and Earl in Barre. They have provided Edith with three grandsons and
four great grandchildren.
Edith loved cooking and enjoyed entertaining
family and friends, said her sons. She and Earl hosted many large
happy gatherings at their home. She is so loved by her family and
friends.
