Doctoral Thesis Survey Explores Retirement Community Lifestyles

Monmouth Junction, N.J., Sept. 3, 03 –“Retirement is for the living, not the dying,” says Barbara Lancaster, who is pursuing her Ph.D. at Kennedy-Western University.  She is testing the validity of her belief with an internet survey that will be published in her doctoral thesis, “Aging Without Limits – A Visionary Approach to Creating Retirement Community Life-styles.”

“I want to know what the life-style needs and retirement dreams are for the baby boomers.  Most facilities emphasize a person’s decline and showcase medical services.  Instead, I want to create an alternative community vision of healthy living,” said Lancaster.

“Why shouldn’t energetic adults retire to a facility that offers organic food, cultural and historic resources?  Why can’t there be an emphasis on beautiful living spaces in a natural environment?  That’s why I invite people to participate and share their ideas for the creation of a retirement community that emphasis the joy of living.  I consider my survey respondents as my ‘focus group’ that will help me plan a new future for aging individuals.”

To participate in the internet survey:  1. Log on to www.lancasteradultcampus.com  2. Complete registration form,  3.  Send registration form by Clicking on e-mail button,  4. A code number will be e-mailed back for privacy protection and 5.  Complete survey.  The survey takes up to twenty minutes to complete and features a series of detailed questions designed to solicit measurements, feelings and commitments to ideas.

In September, 2003, Ms. Lancaster will be attending the United States Administration on Aging’s, “National Summit on Creating Caring Communities” in Orlando, Florida.  There, she will distribute information about her survey in order to encourage participation by conference registrants.

“It is an exciting time to be alive.  There are many choices available to us in the form of health care, life-style and living arrangements.  Let’s take the emphasis off illness and dying and instead focus on living an exceptional quality of life, said Lancaster.”

For nearly 25 years, Ms. Lancaster, the President of Lancaster Management, Inc., has served as a consultant to small businesses.  She assists in planning, training and redefining how her clients attain their financial goals.  Holding a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from Rider University, she is accredited as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP).  She maintains Life and Health licenses for the benefit of her clients.
