Dec. 2, 2009 – Four panelists knowledgeable about
the issues of the health care reform debate in Congress spoke on the
effects the bill on the Senate floor will have on senior citizens. An
online video of their presentations and the Q&A that followed is now
available.
Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI), chairman of the Senate's
Special Committee on Aging, arranged and chaired the meeting.
The presenters included:
● Bill Vaughan, Health Senior Policy Analyst for
Consumers Union
● John Rother, AARP Executive Vice President of Policy and Strategy
● Janet Wells, Director for Public Policy, The National Consumer Voice
for Quality Long Term Care
● Paul Precht, Director for Policy and Communications, Medicare Rights
Center
These advocates for the aging community highlighted
specific provisions in the bill that impact senior citizens, debunked
myths and misunderstandings, and provided Congressional staff an
opportunity to ask questions.
The meeting began at 3 p.m. in Room 562 of the
Dirksen Senate Office Building
