Florida Blue Cross Adds Dental, Other Discounts to
Medicare Part D Drug Plan
Insurers adding new bells and whistles to attract
senior citizens
Sept. 30, 2005 As the insurance companies roll
out their pitches on their Medicare Drug Plan offerings, seniors are
beginning to see more than they expected. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of
Florida, for example, today announced that enrollees in their new
BlueScript for Medicare Part D prescription drug plans will receive
discounts on prescriptions drugs, as well as dental, eldercare and other
health services.
The plans, they say, are available to all
Medicare-eligible Floridians statewide starting Jan. 1, 2006 regardless
of whether they have Medigap supplemental insurance or coverage through
a Medicare Advantage plan or standard Medicare.
Editors Note: Please note this is for Blue Cross
and Blue Shield of Florida. The various Blue Cross and Blue Shield
companies around the nation are independent licensee of the Blue Cross
and Blue Shield Association, and all do not offer the same programs.
BlueScript for Medicare Part D plan enrollees will
receive the same discounts BCBSF has negotiated with pharmacy partners,
and access to a comprehensive selection of covered drugs at more than
3,000 pharmacies in Florida and more than 55,000 nationwide.
"As a Florida-based company, Blue Cross and Blue
Shield of Florida's Part D plans and the benefits provided have been
designed to address the needs of Floridians," said Tricia Engel,
director of product and services.
"In selecting the services offered to BlueScript
for Medicare Part D enrollees, BCBSF placed an emphasis on providing
services that enhance member quality of life while also resulting in
significant savings in their health care expenses."
The federal government requires all Part D plans to
cover at least two drugs that would be used to treat a specific medical
condition or illness. In many instances, BlueScript for Medicare Part D
plans cover more than two drugs, providing broader coverage than the
government requires.
BCBSF says they consulted with practicing
Florida-based physicians in determining which of those additional drugs
would best meet the needs of members and should be covered.
Members also will have access to a variety of
health services and benefits, including significant savings on routine
dental services and procedures from more than 3,800 dentists in Florida
and savings on eldercare programs and services, chiropractic procedures,
massage, acupuncture, vitamins, fitness products, eye exams, fitness
club memberships, lasik surgery and more.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida claims it is
a leader in Florida's health industry, with BCBSF and its subsidiaries
serve more than 7.1 million people. BCBSF is a not-for-profit,
policyholder-owned, tax-paying mutual company. Headquartered in
Jacksonville, Fla., BCBSF is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross
and Blue Shield Association, an association of independent Blue Cross
and Blue Shield companies. For more information concerning BCBSF, visit
