Details Issued by State on New Prescription Drug
Plans
Sept. 23, 2005 – Medicare today formally approved
the prescription drug plans and Advantage plans submitted by companies
wishing to offer these options to senior citizens and others covered by
the program. They also issued news releases for each state with some
details about the programs to be offered in each state.
Below are links to each of these news releases.
Just click on the link beside the state where you live to see what will
be offered there.
The companies can begin marketing their plans on
October 1, which will become effective on January 1, 2006.

More Than Three Million Apply for Medicare
Prescription Drug Help
Sept. 23, 2005 - Jo Anne Barnhart, Commissioner of
Social Security, announced yesterday that more than three million people
have applied for the extra help available with Medicare prescription
drug costs. The extra help will pay most of the costs of monthly
premiums, annual deductibles and prescription co-payments - an average
of $2,100 in extra help per year.

Medicare Announces 2006 Premiums, Part B Up 13.2%
Sept. 16, 2005- Medicare today announced the
premiums to be paid by beneficiaries in 2006. The most closely watched
monthly premium, Medicare Part B, will be $88.50 in 2006, an increase of
$10.30 from the 2005 premium of $78.20. This is a 13.2 percent jump, but
much less than the 17.4 percent increase this year. The bottom line is
that senior citizens in Medicare will be facing this premium plus a new
monthly premium for the new prescription drug program (Part D) that is
expected to average $32 monthly, as well as, the deductibles for Parts
A, B and D.
