Chairman Larry Craig (R-Idaho) presented ranking
member John Breaux (D-Louisiana) with a honorary gavel. Breaux
chaired the committee from June 2001 until the end of 2002, and
is retiring at the end of this year after 32 years in Congress.
Since you are chairing your last Aging hearing
today, it is only appropriate that you have your own gavel,
Craig said. It is presented with our utmost respect, affection,

service on this committee. May it serve you well and be used in
fond remembrance of all the good work you have done on this
