GlaxoSmithKline Offers New Online Tools to Help
Senior Citizens Get Free Medicine
Website, toll-free help line up for new GSK
Access, program for low income Medicare Part D patients
Feb. 13, 2007 – Low-income and disabled senior
citizens that need help with purchasing drugs in the Medicare drug
program can now enroll with GSK Access online or call a toll-free help
line. GlaxoSmithKline says enrollment online is open today at
www.gsk-access.com. The program offers prescription medicines for
free to eligible Part D-enrolled patients.
The free telephone help line is 1-866-475-3678.
"The program's new website provides details on
eligibility, income requirements and a list of the more than 50 GSK
medicines that are included in the program. Patients can also download
an application form from the site to enroll in the program," says Sandy
Moulton director of the program for GlaxoSmithKline..
"For patients who don't have access to the
Internet, or would like to speak to a program counselor, we've launched
a new help line with knowledgeable staff who can answer any questions
they, their family members, doctors or pharmacists may have about the
program," said Moulton.
GSK Access, which began January 1, 2007, provides
free medicines to Medicare Part D enrollees who meet the following
criteria:
● Income that is below 250% Federal Poverty Level
(FPL),
● Residence in one of the 50 states or District
of Columbia, and
● Proof of $600 in expenditures on prescription
medicines in the current calendar year.
Oncology patients who are enrolled in Medicare Part
D plans also will be able to receive their medicines through GSK's
existing patient assistance program Commitment to Access by meeting the
following criteria:
● Income that is below 350% of the Federal
Poverty Level (FPL),
● Residence in one of the 50 states or District
of Columbia, and
● Proof of $600 in expenditures on prescription
medicines in the current calendar year.
Medicare patients who are not enrolled in Part D
remain eligible for the company's existing patient assistance programs:
Commitment to Access and Bridges to Access.
Patients with income below 135% of the Federal
Poverty Level are not eligible for GSK's patient assistance programs
because they qualify for full assistance under the government's subsidy
program.
For more than twenty years, GlaxoSmithKline and its
predecessor companies have provided assistance to those who need help in
getting their medicines. Last year, GSK provided nearly 402,000 patients
more than $370 million in free medicines through its patient assistance
programs that benefit low income patients of all ages, according to the
company.
GlaxoSmithKline is one of the world's leading
research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies and is committed
to improving the quality of human life by enabling people to do more,
feel better and live longer. GSK also provides reimbursement support
services to help patients find alternate funding sources for other
healthcare services.
