Shana Banana's "The Grandparents Song" Nominated For Best Children's Song

Sept. 10, 2004 - Award-winning national children's entertainer, singer & songwriter, Shana Banana Smith has not one, but two songs nominated in the "Best Children's Song" category for the Just Plain Folks Music Awards, "The Grandparents Song" and "The Popcorn Song."

Shana and her husband, Dan, gave birth to their first child, Gracie, on Friday, August 6, which made her mother a new grandmother.

Shana Banana is the only children's artist this year to have 2 nominations for "Best Children's Song."  This marks the second year in a row that Shana Banana has been nominated in this category.  Last year, "I Want to Be a Dinosaur," from Music & Fun for Kids won the award for "Best Children's Song."  Both songs nominated this year are from the Song In My Pocket CD.

The Just Plain Folks Music Organization is comprised of staff and board members of the finest National and International organizations such as NARAS, BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, SOCAN, PRS, NAMM, AES, NARM, NAPM, NAC, SGA, AFM, Indiegrrl, TCG, CMA, MWI, NSAI, TSAI, LAWIM, ISA, TAXI and most of the regional and local songwriter and music industry organizations around the world.

The Just Plain Folks Music Organization selects nominees from over 10,000 albums and 140,000 songs from 85 countries.  Nominations for Best Song in 48 Genres and Best Album in 57 categories have been posted.  The Awards will be held Sunday, November 7th, 2004 in Hollywood, CA at the historic Avalon.

Shana Banana was nominated as "Children's and Family Entertainer of the Year" in 2001-2002 by the National Association of Campus Activities and has (2) two first-round Grammy nominations for her CD's Music & Fun for Kids and Song In My Pocket. Shana has also been the honored recipient of numerous national prestigious awards including; Parents' Choice, NAPPA, Kids' First, and Just Plain Folks awards.

Shana Banana's "The Grandparents Song" and "The Popcorn Song" are alongside 20 other of today's best children's songs.  "What an affirmation...Just Plain Folks represents just who they say they are, and when my music positively affects folks, especially kids, then I know I am on the right path and will keep going," says Shana Banana.
