Senior Citizen Entertainment
Website Features Original Video Like Sex and the
Classics Targeting Boomers, Seniors
Bea Arthur and Sally
Struthers star but there is much more in TV Land
August
31, 2006 – As you would assume, as editor and publisher of
SeniorJournal.com, I spend most of every day on the Internet. Today, I
discovered something spectacularly new, innovative and designed for our
audience of senior citizens and older baby boomers. If you have not seen
it, you need to check out TVLand.com. Below is a link to a sample of
their original classic productions – a five minute skit, Sex and the
Classics, a take-off on Sex and the City, but starring Bea
Arthur and Sally Struthers. You'll love it.
"Sexy never gets old! Meet the more 'mature' ladies
of Sex and the City in a spoof of the hit show," says the
promotion. Read the rest of this article and then return to this link

They have other spoofs, too, like Desperate
Classic Housewives and Gray Anatomy. All feature new
performances by stars we remember well.

How Baby Boomers Play, Live, Love and Wire the World
is Subject of TV Series
TV Land explores how boomers shook the work,
redefined the rules
August 31, 2006 - From growing up in the suburbs to
witnessing the original moon walk, and from swirling a hula hoop to
playing with hi-tech gadgets, baby boomers have shaped and continue to
change the world we live in today. TV Land, the cable network, takes an
entertaining and light-hearted look at what it means to be part of the
grooviest generation in history when it presents Generation Boom,
a four-part original special premiering on Tuesday, September 26 at 10
p.m. ET/PT. It is narrated by Emmy Award-winning actor Kelsey Grammer
(Frasier, Cheers). Read

And there is much more from TV Land, which
describes its collection of online video as "the good, the weird and the
wonderful."
There are classic scenes from TV in the 50's and
60's, original series, celebrity, one-minute dramas, classic commercials
and that is still not all.
TV Land, as you may know, is actually a cable
television network now seen in over 87
million U.S. homes. TV Land's television program mix features popular
dramas, sitcoms, westerns, Retromercials and more, all programmed with a
specific audience in mind -- the first generation of Americans to grow
up watching television. It features all-time classic hits like All in
the Family, I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, and Bonanza.
What brought the company to my attention is a news
release about Generation Boom,
a four-part original special premiering on Tuesday, September 26 at 10
p.m. ET/PT. Narrated by Emmy Award-winning actor Kelsey Grammer the
series takes an "entertaining and light-hearted look" at baby boomers
growing up.
TV Land Productions
was created in 2003 to develop original programming that complements the
network's acquired programming slate and it appears to be primarily
these productions that are offered on their Website. One of their most
notable productions was the Emmy-nominated The Dick Van Dyke Show,
Revisited, which premiered on CBS in May 2004.
The network premiered
a variety of original series and specials in 2005 including: TV Guide
and TV Land Present: The 100 Most Unexpected TV Moments, Living in TV
Land, TV Land Confidential and Sit Down Comedy with David
Steinberg.
TV Land is part of MTV
Networks, a division of Viacom International Inc.
The TV Land cable
network may be doing great but I really think they have the beginning of
something unique in their video-laden Website. It is a nice contribution
to the growing volume and quality of the Internet.
Here is the link to
their home page -
http://www.tvland.com/ - , and, again, a direct like to Sex and the
Classics is
HERE. Have fun.
