Hallmark Channel May Be Overlooked Bright Spot for
Senior Citizens
April features new family shows plus a week of
westerns - but not Roy or Gene
March 27, 2008 Senior citizens who find todays
television programming a little boring, which has to be a bunch, may
want to check out the Hallmark Channel, which features programming from
Hallmark that has warmed the hearts of many of us as we matured. Below
are some of the highlights for April 2008.
Hugh
Grant stars as Michael Felgate, an English-born art dealer whose
impending marriage is threatened when his fiancιe reveals that her
father (James Caan) is a high-ranking member of the Mafia. When he and
his auction house inadvertently become embroiled in a money laundering
scheme, he must masquerade for the FBI as a wiseguy in order to stay out
of jail long enough to make it to the altar. "Mickey Blue Eyes"
has its Hallmark Channel Premiere Saturday. April 5 (9/8c).
John
Larroquette stars as Jim McBride, an ingenious cop-turned-attorney
who only takes the toughest cases and possesses a unique ability to
eliminate potential suspects through flashbacks that place him squarely
in the scene of the crime. Mystery fans can enjoy a full day of whodunit
with a "McBride" marathon Saturday, April 12 (1pm/12c - 1am/12c).
The
desperados at Hallmark Channel invite viewers to enjoy Rough & Ready
Week,' a full week of Westerns every night at 9pm/8c, capped off with
Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson in the thrilling "Seraphim
Falls" on Saturday, April 19. Alone in the wilderness in 1868, a man
named Gideon (Pierce Brosnan, left) finds himself the target of a
kill-or-be-killed chase from snowy mountain peaks to barren desert
plains, as he is relentlessly hunted by Carver (Liam Neeson, right),
whose quest for vengeance will not stop while there is breath in his
body. Rough & Ready Week" airs Monday, April 14 - Saturday April 19.
A
pioneer family's struggles, triumphs, loves and losses are chronicled in
the "Love Comes Softly" series, a longtime favorite of Hallmark
Channel viewers. Emmy Award winning actress Katherine Heigl stars
in the first two films as Marty Claridge, whose journey from the East to
the uncharted Western frontier begins a journey that will continue for
generations. The six-film "Love Comes Softly" series airs Saturday,
April 26 (1pm/12c - 1am/12c).
Macon
Leary (William Hurt), an emotionally-distant travel guide author,
must come to terms with the tragic murder of his teenage son and the
strain it put on his marriage. But things begin to look up for Macon
when he crosses paths with Muriel (Geena Davis, pictured), a quirky and
outgoing dog trainer whose sunny disposition may help him with his
healing. The Hallmark Channel Premiere of "The Accidental Tourist"
is Sunday, April 27 (9:30am/8:30c).
