Aug. 4, 2005 – At least one entry has been selected for the 2006 Ms. Golden America Pageant, which focuses on “the beauty and accomplishments of women baby boomers.” Elle Nash of Fort Lauderdale, a former Miss Manhattan in the ‘60s, has been selected for the event on October 29, 2005 at the Harborside Event Center in Fort Myers, Florida. The Boomer beauty and brains contest for women over 49 is the idea of Kathleen LeSage, a former beauty queen who has worked as a marketing executive for companies that market to the over-fifty consumer.

Ms. Golden America Pageant Names Finalist for First Title

15 “Late Boomers” and young senior citizens make the final cut

Aug. 17, 2005 – Fifteen women between the ages of 51 and 65 have been selected from 750 applicants to compete for the first Ms. Golden America title. The finals will be on October 29 at the Harborside Event Center in Fort Myers, Florida. Read more...Photos of finalists...

Nash, a little beyond the Boomer age at 64, was chosen from over 700 applicants, according to the events news release. The pageant plans to have approximately 20 women compete for the crown from throughout the country. Contestants will compete in five areas of competition that include tennis wear, commercial appeal, written essay and the traditional evening gown and on-stage question. There will be no swimsuit competition.

Ms. Nash owns "Fit Over Fifty" and is a senior personal trainer. Originally from New York, she has two children and two grandchildren. Ms. Nash's experiences include time working on Capital Hill in Washington, DC.

When asked how she feels about entering the pageant, Ms. Nash replied, "By entering this pageant I feel I have come full circle. Life is so exciting at this age. We can be anything we want. It takes determination, persistence and a little hard work."

“I actually came up with the idea one day about eight years ago as I was looking through stock photos of women in their 50’s and 60’s for a brochure I was creating,” says Ms. LeSage.  “Having a background in modeling and pageants, I realized what an incredible opportunity there was for women of this age in the modeling and pageant industry."

"I opened Ms. Golden America Inc. in 2003 and have been working on this event for two years.  By the year 2010 there will be more people over the age of 50 than under it, so the opportunities are endless for the winner of Ms. Golden America, she adds.”

Ms. Golden America, Inc. is based in Naples, Florida.

Eligibility requirements are United States residency, being at least 50 years of age by October 29, 2005 and being a female. Women may be single, married, divorced or widowed.

Ms. Golden America will win an array of prizes, says the pageant, including a personal appearance contract, a week for two to New Life Hiking Spa in Killington, Vermont and a diamond solitaire necklace.

The pageant will be produced as a one-hour special on the cable satellite network, SkyAngel. It is scheduled to air December 17, 2005 at 8:00 p.m.

“I am excited to have the pageant in Fort Myers. It’s the perfect location with its beautiful weather, excellent lodging and airport facilities. In addition, Southwest Florida is a magnet for the over-fifty crowd.  One out of every 1,000 Americans will own property in Fort Myers or Naples by the end of 2005,” states Ms. LeSage.
