Free Generic Antibiotic Prescription Program
Announced by Food Chain
Giant Food pharmacies will continue the program
through March 21
Jan. 2, 2009 – More good news for senior citizens
burdened with cost of prescription drugs – a supermarket chain, Giant
Food, has announced a program of free generics for prescribed
antibiotics. It covers 36 generic antibiotics in nine basic categories.
The program began today, January 2, and runs through March 21 at all
Giant pharmacies.
Giant Food says this major consumer wellness
initiative is help families whose health is affected by a difficult
economy. It is not a program only for senior citizens.
"Giant pharmacies are committed to improving the
health and wellness in our communities during the winter season when
families are susceptible to coughs, colds, and bacteria-borne
illnesses," explained Andrea Astrachan, consumer advisor for Giant Food.
"As the provider of fresh, wholesome foods that
help our customers stay healthy, we feel it is equally important to
offer these free antibiotics to fight illness," she said.
Giant Food is headquartered in Landover, MD, and
operates 182 supermarkets (163 with full-service pharmacies) in
Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia
In recent months Giant has held an Affordable Food
Summit, offered customers Real Deal savings and expanded its line of
corporate brand products against the backdrop of a difficult economy.
This new wellness promotion is all about access to the prescriptions
families need from a company that cares about the health and wellness of
the communities it serves.
"Free antibiotics is the latest good news our
pharmacies are offering the public," Ms. Astrachan said. "We also offer
up to a 90 day supply on over 350 commonly prescribed generic drugs for
only $9.99."
Giant is supporting the program with television
advertising, physician outreach, in-store communication and an expanded
web presence. For additional information along with a list of the
