"With the abundance of methods and products
currently available, consumers now more than ever before need a resource
that will cut through the clutter and offer credible information about
aging and associated treatments for aging," said Paula A. Moynahan M.D.,
Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon, The Moynahan Medical Center for
Cosmetic Surgery, New York, NY.
"By offering coverage of a wide range of treatment
options, from resurfacing to facial injectables to surgical procedures,
AgingWithBeauty.com fills this gap. Visitors to the Web site will have
treatment pros and cons, expected outcomes and research findings at
their fingertips."
Though the number of minimally-invasive procedures,
which include facial injectables, has increased more than 3,000 percent
since 1992, confusion and a lack of awareness is evident among
consumers, says the news release announcing the site.
A recent survey conducted by the American Society
for Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) suggests that consumers are confused about
what treatments are currently available to address the many aspects of
facial aging. Only 22 percent of respondents were very or extremely
familiar with available treatment options, while 78 percent had less
familiarity with physician- administered treatments. At the same time,
32 percent of respondents were unsure of how long some treatments last.
Similar to the ASPS survey, a 2003 survey conducted
by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) found that 94 percent of
women are confused by the numerous anti-aging treatment options while
more than 78 percent reported uncertainty about cosmetic procedure
benefits, duration of results and treatment procedures.
The new online destination targeting U.S. women,
www.AgingWithBeauty.com, explains the underlying causes and actions of
facial aging, providing visual examples of how aging affects our bodies
internally, externally, physiologically and temporally.
It provides a glossary with detailed explanations
about different anti-aging treatments and links to resources such as
research articles, clinical studies, and professional organizations that
provide further information on facial aging.
The site also emphasizes the importance of
selecting a medical professional trained to administer facial
rejuvenation procedures and strives to foster discussion between the
consumer and physician about available options.
"The launch of this valuable online resource by
sanofi-aventis will aid the consumer in the decision-making process,"
said Dr. Moynahan. "Patient awareness and an experienced medical
professional are vital when making a treatment decision in an evolving
anti-aging market."
