Senior Winter Olympics Results 3-04-00

 

Alpine skiing concludes 2000 winter National Senior Games

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The first winter version of the National Senior Games, also known as the Senior Olympics, ended on Whiteface Mountain Friday afternoon with the running of a slalom ski race for intermediates.

George Hamilton of Greenville, N.C. won his second gold medal after taking the giant slalom title Wednesday by outlasting the rest of the field. Hamilton raced down the course twice with heats totaling 1 minute, 03.63 seconds en route to the gold medal in the 65-69 age division.

John Williams of Seneca, S.C. narrowly defeated Harold Waggoner of Cloudcroft, N.M. for the gold medal among men 60-64 years of age. Williams posted a two-run total of 1:14.32 to Waggoner’s 1:14.53.

William Harrison of Bel Air, Md. schussed by William Camperlino of Fayetteville, N.Y. for the crown in the 50-54 division. The winner’s time was 1:09.09, while Camperlino was timed in 1:43.80.

The crown for men 70-74 years of age went to H. Dean Nordquist of Glens Falls, N.Y. who skied the Parkway course in 1:39.27.

Betsy Sayre of Harrisonburg, Va. took the women’s race for 70-74 year olds by clocking 3:19.18.

Judith Armstrong of Wilmington, Del. won the women’s 55-59 group in 1:08.61. The silver was awarded to Wendy Harrison of Bel Air, Md. in 1:32.88.

Dorothy Ray of Bricktown, N.J., the lone entrant among women 50-54, had a gold medal-winning time of 2:35.13.
