Helps
Seniors
Develop
Fitness
to
Maintain
Independence
BELLEVUE,
Wash.,
Dec.
19,
2000--Senior
citizens
committed
to
remaining
independent
and
who
enjoy
getting
health
information
over
the
Internet
can
benefit
from
a
new
health
and
fitness
offering
called
fitness
e-coaching,
according
to
the
web
site
sponsor.
Fitness
e-coaching
is
an
affordable
and
convenient
online
service
to
help
seniors
--
and
their
caregivers
--
get
fit,
the
company
says.
FitnessDesigns,
a
13-year-old
Bellevue,
Wash.-based
firm,
launched
the
fitness
e-coaching
aspect
of
its
fitness
consulting
business
this
month
to
respond
to
a
client
need
to
receive
ongoing
email
support.
"Since
the
Internet
has
become
a
major
force
in
how
consumers
receive
health
information,"
FitnessDesigns
President
Jessica
C.
Adlin,
B.S.,
Ed.
says,
"the
timing
is
right
to
highlight
the
service.
Clients
from
every
age
group
have
been
informally
participating
in
e-coaching
with
FitnessDesigns
for
years.
Tele-coaching
(coaching
by
telephone)
is
also
available.
Studies
show
that
an
exercise
training
program
tailored
to
an
older
adult's
physical
limitations
can:
- prevent
osteoporosis;
- decrease
susceptibility
to
falls;
- decrease
susceptibility
to
breast
cancer
and
other
chronic
disease;
- decrease
the
symptoms
of
arthritis;
- improve
strength
and
endurance,
balance
and
mobility;
- improve
flexibility.
``Many
seniors
just
need
a
little
support,
and
we
can
provide
that
online
and
through
tele-coaching,''
Adlin
says.
He
says
fitness
e-coaching
participants
gain
expert
information
regarding
physical
health
and
well
being,
ask
questions
about
their
personal
wellness
program
anytime
from
anywhere,
discuss
changes
to
their
action
plan,
and
receive
motivation
to
sustain
their
efforts.
Participants
enjoy
the
ongoing
email
relationship
with
a
fitness
consultant
who
holds
them
accountable
to
their
goals,
while
helping
them
to
achieve
them.
Adlin
explains
that
clients
gain
unlimited
email
contact
with
FitnessDesigns
for
a
year,
a
``get
fit''
packet
that
contains
self
assessments
for
nutrition,
stress,
and
exercise,
other
wellness
information,
and
instructions
on
how
to
get
the
most
from
the
service
for
$199.
They
also
receive
a
monthly
email
wellness
newsletter.
Tele-coaching
is
$45
for
30-minutes
or
$159
per
month
for
four
30-minute
consultations.
``Many
clients
consult
with
us
before
seeing
a
doctor,
physical
therapist,
or
other
specialist.
The
guidance
and
information
we
provide
helps
them
get
more
value
from
their
professional
relationships,''
Adlin
said.
